// OVERVIEW

Why straightening matters

Bar stock and shafts bow during manufacturing, heat treatment, machining, and handling. Even small deviations cause vibration, premature bearing wear, and out-of-tolerance assemblies. Straightening removes that bow so parts run true.

We straighten before grinding to maximize stock removal efficiency, and after heat treat or machining to correct distortion — measuring total indicator runout (TIR) throughout to verify results.

// WHEN YOU NEED IT

Common scenarios

Post heat-treat distortion

Hardening introduces bow — we bring parts back to straight before final grinding.

Long, slender shafts

High length-to-diameter parts that bow under their own handling.

// WHY IT WINS

Benefits

Reduced runout & vibration — longer service life for rotating assemblies.
Better grinding yield — straight stock grinds cleaner with less material loss.
Verified results — TIR measured and documented on request.

// STRAIGHTENING FAQ

Shaft straightening questions

What straightness can you achieve?

Our press straightening holds finished-shaft straightness to .0005″ per foot TIR or better, measured and verified.

When should parts be straightened?

Straighten after heat treatment or machining to correct distortion, and before grinding to maximize stock-removal efficiency.

What's the difference between press and roll straightening?

Press straightening corrects finished shafts to tight tolerances (.0005″/ft), while roll straightening preps bar stock before machining (.0015″/ft) and descales heat-treated material.
